The October 28 integration lets eligible institutions delegate SOL through existing BitGo custody workflows, with Jupiter operating the validator independently.

BitGo Bank & Trust, N.A. and Jupiter [announced on October 28](https://www.bitgo.com/resources/blog/bitgo-and-jupiter-enable-institutional-sol-staking-directly-from-regulated-custody/) that eligible institutional clients can delegate SOL from their existing BitGo custody accounts through the Jupiter x BitGo validator. The announcement presents the integration as available through BitGo's existing staking workflows.

The change is an additional validator option within a custody service. BitGo already offered SOL staking, as [Unchained's report](https://unchainedcrypto.com/bitgo-adds-jupiter-operator-of-a-993-million-solana-validator-to-its-custody-staking-options/) notes. The announcement does not introduce a new Solana consensus mechanism or establish that clients have already used the option.

### Custody and validator operation stay separate

BitGo says the SOL is delegated to the validator rather than transferred to Jupiter's custody. Jupiter operates the validator as an independent third party, while clients retain their existing BitGo custody arrangement. BitGo explicitly says it does not control the validator's performance.

That separates two operational roles: the custody relationship through which the institution manages its holdings, and the validator operation to which its native stake is delegated. The jointly branded name does not make those roles interchangeable.

The custody workflow also does not remove the protocol's exit timing. BitGo states that unstaking remains subject to Solana's deactivation period. The announcement supplies no basis for treating the arrangement as an immediate-withdrawal product.

### What the announcement leaves open

Access is described for eligible institutional clients. BitGo also qualifies the entity providing services by the client's jurisdiction and eligibility, so the announcement should not be read as universal retail availability.

Unchained identifies another unresolved detail: neither firm has clarified whether the Jupiter x BitGo name refers to Jupiter's existing main validator or a separate node. A name alone therefore does not identify the specific onchain validator serving this offering.
