Amundi announced on November 5 that it had launched a tokenized share class of a European equity index fund on the public Ethereum blockchain. The asset manager developed the arrangement with CACEIS, whose technology and infrastructure support the digital issuance of fund units.

In its announcement, Amundi says the share class has been issued and remains part of the fund’s existing operating model. The fund also continues to be available through traditional distribution channels.

The fund unit is the blockchain layer

Amundi defines tokenization here as representing fund units digitally on a blockchain. That makes the announced object a share class of an investment fund. The release does not say that every underlying European stock has itself been issued on Ethereum or that the fund’s entire operation has moved onchain.

The continued availability of traditional channels is an important operational distinction. A blockchain-based representation can sit alongside an established fund structure, rather than replacing every route through which investors already access it. Cointelegraph’s report also describes the Ethereum issuance, CACEIS’s role and the parallel traditional offering.

Amundi presents the move as an extension beyond its earlier cash-management tokenization work into equity-index investing. It also describes an ambition to develop more tokenized funds for institutional clients and digital platforms. That broader range is a future objective, distinct from the share-class issuance announced on November 5.

The company discusses automation, accessibility and settlement as potential advantages as infrastructure and regulation develop. The release provides no measured settlement comparison or usage figures for the new class. It also does not identify the fund or share class by name or identifier, or detail investor eligibility and distribution arrangements.

The concrete announcement is therefore the issuance of a fund-share representation on Ethereum, with the existing operating model and traditional channels retained. It does not establish unrestricted access from any crypto wallet.
